The 23rd Annual Festival of Trees is coming up November 25th – 27th.
Trees, poinsettias and program ads are available for purchase. We’re
also seeking new, hand-made craft items for the Calvert Hospice Gift
Shop. Get your organization or scout troop involved and sign up to
decorate a Festival tree — a fun group activity!

August 3rd through the 5th at East Johns Youth Center in Lusby. Camp
Phoenix is for children who are grieving the death of someone close.
As with all other bereavement programs, Camp Phoenix is offered free
of charge to Calvert County residents. For information or to register

for children and teens, ages 7 to 15, who are grieving the death of
someone close. Two sessions are offered; July 7, 8, and 9 from 9:30
a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at King’s Landing Park in Huntingtown and August 4,
5, and 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at East Johns Youth Center in
Lusby. Camp Phoenix offers the opportunity for kids to share their feelings
of grief and loss in a supportive and understanding environment.
Campers enjoy traditional camp activities, such as swimming, sports,
games and crafts, as well as group discussion and creative activities
led by professional counselors and trained volunteers. Camp is a time
to meet new people and have fun while learning coping skills and

sessions is June 18. Camp Phoenix, like all Calvert Hospice
bereavement programs, is offered free of charge to Calvert County

beginning Saturday, June 5 at the Calvert Hospice office in Prince
Frederick. “Education for Living” training provides community members
with the knowledge and skills necessary to become part of the Hospice
team as a volunteer. Sessions are taught by Hospice team members and
experts from the community. Participants will receive valuable
information useful in everyday life. To register for training, contact

elementary school through college with ID, $25 for seniors 65 years
and older, or $75.00 per family. Race Day Registration is $40 per person. Strollers and dogs are welcome. Robbie – The first weekend in May is a special time at Hospice. It is
the weekend the Miles family chose to honor the memory of Robbie
Miles, a young man with an extraordinary gift for life, despite a
debilitating and uncontrolled seizure disorder that left him both
mentally and physically disabled. Before his death in 2000, Robbie
enjoyed being pushed in his wheelchair around the high school track
with his family and friends. After his death, Kate Miles, Robbie’s
mother decided to honor Robbie’s memory with a 5K event to raise funds
for the Burnett-Calvert Hospice House. There will be fitness and fun
for the whole family and entertainment for children and adults. T-Shirts – The first 200 paid registrants will be awarded one short
sleeve T-shirt. Family rate will receive two T-shirts. Awards – Awards are given to men and women 1st through 3rd place by
age category. Course – USATF Certified course #MD07007JS. The 5K event will start on
Merrimac Court and make a left onto Old Field Lane. At Main Street,
the runners will make a left and continue down Main Street. Then the
runners will make a right onto Holy Family Lane and run along St. John
Vianney around the Rectory and exit on Vianney Lane. Make a right
back onto Main Street and proceed along Main Street to make a right
onto Armory Road. Continue along Armory Road and make a right onto
Dares Beach Road. The runners will make the next right off of Dares
Beach Road onto Fairground Road. Follow Fairground Road up to Armory
Road and make a left back onto Armory Road then a left back to Main
Street. Proceed up Main Street and make a right onto Old Field Lane
and make a right onto Merrimac Court to the Finish Lane. Location & Parking – Race begins and ends at the Calvert Hospice
Office located at 238 Merrimac Ct., Prince Frederick, MD (Next to the
PF Post Office.) From Washington, D.C., Take 495/beltway, take exit
11, Route 4 South. Follow Rt. 4 South (Which becomes Rt. 2/4 South)
approx. 30 miles to Prince Frederick. Travel just past the light at
Rt2/4 and Rt. 231 and make the first left. Parking available
immediately on your left in Prince Frederick Shopping Center. Walk
